About
Parallax Mapping Engine 2.0 renders textures with parallax displacement mapping in Quake 4. Parallax Mapping is a texture mapping technique that simulates physical displacements in textures by shifting the texels (pixels in a texture) according to the view angle.
note: Parallax Mapping is also known as virtual displacement mapping or offset mapping.
Parallax Mapping in Quake 4
This is the sequel to the popular Doom3 Parallax Mapping 1.0. The Quake4 version incorporates an improved central shader and includes over 1000 custom heightmaps. Textures that dont have a custom heightmap benefit from the author's proprietary Simulated Parallax Mapping algorithm. The result is a significant improvement over standard bump mapping, especially when moving around or using 3D glasses.
note: This mod requires at least a Radeon 9500 or GeForce FX.
