Config files has the extension *.cfg and are textfiles containing settings, binds and scripts for Quake 4. For information on which commands you can use read our Quake 4 Console Guide.
Q4Config.cfg
Quake 4 automatically creates a config file called q4config.cfg, you can find this file in your "quake 4\baseq4\"-folder and if you install any quake 4 modifications, in each of the mod folders. This file contains all the settings and variables for Quake 4 or the mod in question. You can edit this file, although it is not recommended, but you can view them in any textfile viewer that supports Unicode Text Files, for example WordPad in Windows.
Autoexec.cfg
autoexec.cfg is not created by quake 4, just save a textfile in your "quake 4\baseq4"-folder and name it "autoexec.cfg". All setting in this file is set when you start Quake 4 and overrides q4config.cfg with any values specified.
Saving a config from inside Quake 4
Configs can be saved and loaded at any time in Quake 4. To save a config, pull down the console and type "writeconfig something.cfg". This will create a config file with all you current setting in the game
Loading a config
To load a config file, simply type "exec something.cfg". This is a good feature if different people play with different settings, or if you wan't to other graphics options for multiplayer, for instance. |
