Quake 4 Widescreen support
Quake4 supports 16:9 and 16:10 Widescreen mode straight out of the box, you can change it in the Video Settings menu. By changing the aspect ratio, only the horizontal FOV is changed, in other words, you get a Wider Field Of View in 16:9 & 16:10, but the Vertical Field Of View stays the same.
Widescreen FOV in Quake 4
Quake 4 does not natively support widescreen resolutions, however you can configure Quake 4 to use a 16:10 or 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio by changing the r_aspectratio cvar in the console (CTRL+ALT+~). Note that using the console is unsupported by Activision. The following values will adjust the aspect ratio:

0 = 4:3 (Standard)
1 = 16:9 (Widescreen)
2 = 16:10 (Widescreen)
